GOLSPIE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND 100 years
Birthday on July 4th, 2006
CENTENARY CLELBRATIONS 1906 - 2006
and GOLSPIE SCOUT GROUP are putting on an Exhibition of their Progress and activities as part of the Celebrations.
The Congregation of the Church of Scotland are scheduling Events throughout the day.
Golspie Scout Group Committee has been formed to ascertain what improvements can be made to the Church Hall. They have requested that the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers (covering their youth age range) find out all they can about the history of the Hall. Such as when it was built - who built it - why was it built - who made (and designed) the stained glass windows - what do the pictures in the windows mean - what has happened in the hall over the past many decades ?
so - a lot to go and ask about that will be of interest.
Did your grandparents get married in church here ?
or did you mum or dad go to Sunday School in the rear Hall ? Lots of other Social Events will have taken place - so what happened over the two World Wars and how was the Hall used ?
Find out all you can and bring your discoveries to the Meetings. For Explorers perhaps parents may like to check out with them, at the Inverness Public Library or local Heritage Centres looking at Newspaper Reports. The "Northern Times" could help here when you tell them of your searches. Probably long ago photos of the Scout Group may be on file ? Local History and Public Media Badge Awards can be gained.
