ADULT TRAINING NEWS

The new training system is now operating and SHQ have appointed a Regional Training Manager (RTM), Allen Perrin, for Highland Region.

R&S Area in turn has a Local Training Manager (LTM), Iain Stewart.

Allen was the guest speaker at the Area AGM on 22nd May, 2005 and he has set up a splendid web site at www.highland-region.fsnet.co.uk  that can answer all your questions.  It is essential that we all stay aware of the changes that are being made, to deliver the new training across the region.  Please do check up on the web site or check with Iain Stewart as to what major changes have taken place.  Cathy Chambers (see Area Contacts Page) for Training information details, Courses, etc.

An Important Message from James Allen – Programme & Development Executive at SHQ

who is toured of all of the Scouting Areas in Scotland, including a visit to our Ross & Sutherland Area 2005.    Area Commissioners / Appointments Secretary and members of that Sub-Committee / members of the Area Team/ Local Training Manager and Group Scout Leaders ( or Leaders in charge) heard about and discussed this very  important subject.

The Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003  - POCSA for short - placing legal obligations on The Scout Association to adhere to certain new requirements for the checking of adults working with young people.  SHQ is therefore ensuring that we are always up to date with current legislation.  Also the public at large can be assured that we are at the forefront of checking all adults working with us.

James also had the opportunity to share information on a number of wider issues in the current programme, and to gather knowledge about Scouting  in our Area from the people who make it happen !  If you are a new Leader or Helper please do contact Cathy Chambers - Ross & Sutherland Training Commissioner or SHQ by email or telephone to be sure we are complying with every aspect of the above mentioned Act.
