Captain Sir Roderick Stirling KCVO  - late Lord Lieutenant of Ross-shire

I am saddened to report that Captain Roderick Stirling the Lord Lieutenant of Ross-Shire and our Area president died on Saturday the 24th of March 2007 - just four days after being Knighted in his hospital bed.  Sir Roderick Stirling KCVO who was 74 years old, and a personal friend of the late Queen Mother, sadly lost his final battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife (Penny) and four daughters.  He was a charming man, and did so much for other people, very quietly - and we will miss his presence:  indeed I am pleased to record that the Scout Association honoured him very recently with the Award of the Silver Acorn.
A private family funeral will be followed by a Service of Thanksgiving on Friday the 30th March 2007 at St Anne’s Church, Strathpeffer commencing at 3.00 pm.
I have written to Eleanor Lyall (Chief Commissioner Scotland) indicating that with her permission - I would wish to attend as a representitive of the Scout Association, and I am sure that some of you might be free perhaps, to join me (in uniform please - where applicable).  Sincerely yours,

Frank Hallett - Area Commissioner - Ross & Sutherland Scouting
