Getting ready to dismiss and go home after a very exciting day at Dornoch

The Area Scout Executive thanks everyone from the youngest to not so young for turning up and making the special Parade Service on 25th February a Day to remember in the lives of us all.  Us old'uns as they say in East Anglia can remember Days like this in our youth of Scouting;  and 'memories' like this are needed to build memory blocks of the future in our young people.

“SCOUTS CELEBRATE 100 YEARS”

The Centenary Parade last Sunday at Dornoch Cathedral for Ross-shire and Sutherland Scouting was packed  with Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders filled every pew in a myriad of colour:  with Rev. Susan Brown controlling the exuberant youngsters and adults in her own special way.  U.K. and overseas Uniform shirts from past years hung from the walls.   Guests included Dr. Monica Main, Lord Lieutenant of Sutherland,  Lord John Thurso M.P. and Jamie Stone M.S.P.   Invited ex or present members of Scouting and Guiding included members of Ross-shire Trefoil Guild, and not so young ex members of Scouting now living in the area.

The Parade was led both ways by three young Sutherland Scout Pipers, and our new Area Flag was carried by two Scouts who are going to the World Scout Jamboree in Essex on behalf of Ross & Sutherland in August.  The Area Scouts Commissioner, Frank Hallett presented a Chief Scout’s Gold Award and Certificate to Euan MacKenzie, Muir of Ord Scouts.  Certificates and WoodBadge Leadership Awards were presented to five Leaders from different Groups.
