2007 WORLD JAMBOREE - OUR 100th BRITHDAY OF SCOUTING

was The biggest Scouting Event since the 1957 World Jamboree at Sutton Coldfield, England.  This last one was at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex 2005 with 40.000 plus Scouts from all over the globe !  The 'camp city' was jam packed, with thousands more are flocking to it, as well as satellite Camps for Day Visits. It was the biggest Scouting party that the United Kingdom has ever seen and we were part of it. It was as big as the Olympics  with most countries around the globe attending -wow !  The listing of all the countries with Scouting can be found on our national Website - there are so few without Scouting such as Yemen, North Korea, Cuba, Myanmar and China (though Hong Scouts are allowed still !)

Ross & Sutherland Scouting was  represented by our Explorer Scouts Commissioner, Fiona Smart in the International Service Team at the Eurojam 2005 held at Highlands Park, Chelmsford, Essex last August as a "Rehearsal" for 2007.  There are a number of us in the Area who have attended large Jamborees and can speak of the buzz and experience of mixing with so many nationalities regardless of the colour, class, creed or political differences when the unifying part of us all is our World Scout Membership, Scout Promise and Scout Law.  Jennifer an Explorer Scout from Tain and Alex from Avoch Sea Scouts are our Representatives - congratulations on this once only opportunity.

We had our Scotland North Area WSJ 2007 small Contingent from Orkney down to Inverness-shire, and from Ross-shire over to Aberdeenshire with the above badge design available to both Scouts from these Areas and for Collectors worldwide to purchase.  All the Sales money revenue went towards the Contingent’s Funding to the Jamboree.

Either blue edged or purple edged badges are £2-00 each plus postages.

up to 3 badges will fit into envelope for 23p (2nd Class) or 37p  (2nd Class – large letter) for more

than 3 badges.  Quite a lot more will need to fit into an envelope more than 25mm thick!

Three thick embroidered badges are just under the 5mm limit for 23p.

All cheques to payee:   ‘Ross & Sutherland Area Badges’   to the above address.  There are a few left if you missed out.

For Collectors of District and Area Badges we still have stock to sell of our 4 Extinct Districts at 75p each;  along with our Area Badge at 50p.  Apart from annual Capitation Fee this is the only form of Fund Raising we have for a widely spread Area.  Postage at 23p will send 8 badges in an A6 envelope or 37p for a bigger quantity.  Our Website pictures these badges.  For very keen enthusiastic collectors these badges were all reordered in 2003 so slight variations in design in the Ross & Sutherland and Sutherland which were nearer to much earlier issues.

Thank you for helping to support our Area Scouting in the Northern Scottish Highlands.
